In 1984, Chen Kaige‘s Yellow Earth led the Fifth Generation of Chinese filmmakers onto the international stage. Professor Ni Zhen of Beijing Film Academy described this milestone in his essay The Height of the Jump, passionately advocating for Chinese cinema as it ventured into higher and uncharted territories.
Forty years later, in the face of era-defining transformations, generational anxieties, and the integration of artificial intelligence into visual media, VITA SHORTS revisits this proposition. Under this theme, young, pioneering, and liberated cinematic works represent the “jump” of the New Generation as they explore self-concept and creative vision.
